Scott Bakker
Disciple of the dog just released softcover today, which is awesome. I've been waiting for him to get another book out all year; it is great that he's maintaining a relatively consistent pace in his writing. Only 'bad' news is he's back on the internet again, got a new blog "Three Pound Brain". Gotta give it to him, he's gotta have one of the most amusing free writing styles I've read. new book out of Prince of nothing is due out March 31, 2011 according to Amazon and Scott promised to have both DotD and WLW out by spring, so I'm assuming that date is correct or very close -- exciting. I might write a poorly written review of DotD later this month.

JUst heard "Gum" Cornelius on the Scott Pilgrim vs the world trailer made my day.
Scotty.
Also, a shout out to David Fincher and his team for making one of the best teaser trailers I have ever seen for "The Social Network". I'm a creep sung by a choir for the introduction to a movie essentially about the facebook phenomenon, which was caused by its popularity... The Social Network.
Credit to Film Junk for being awesome most of the time.
One more thing: Toy Story 3 is the best of series.

Filthy Mix #1
I made a mix for the blog, mostly stuff i've picked up from other blogs over the last few months -- eclectic mix and amateur mixing, but its my first one, so I only feel slightly retarded.
Fang Island -- Dream of Dreams; The Black Keys -- Goodbye Babylon; Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti -- Blue Lit Blue Skies; These New Puritans -- Hologram; The National -- Lemonworld; Son Drop -- The Sails Will Fill Out; Gauntlet Hair -- I Was Thinking..; Dom -- Burn Bridges; Tanlines -- Real Life; ORPHAN -- Day Drunk Dial; ///∆∆∆\\\ -- Tetanus Wine; White Ring -- we rot (mixed quite a bit); Cults -- Go Outside [end of what i wanted to put on it]
Bonus: Q4 -- Goin' Down; C.W. Stoneking -- I heard the marching of the drum
Lix
15 songs; 58:21 54.4mb
320 constant (over a range)

Native FLAC playing capabilities are hard to find on a mac, on applications that work simply, but now there is Fluke, which is a javascript program that imports and allows itunes to play .FLAC files. The guide where I found out about this importing method is SimpleHelp.
Its a much better player than VLC, which is what I was using before -_-'
Anyways, I've been listening to Tanlines quite a bit and I like their music. Its very much drum driven music, but it has a tropical like feel -- almost dancehall, but not quite. It also uses Chillwave style vocals: droning, with synth or vocoder style holding-notes.
Also jumped onto the new hipster boat 'witch house'. Been listening to ///▲▲▲\\\, White Ring and twYlYZoNe. I find it very similar to Chillwave because I feel as though its driven by nostalgia for the poor sound quality in the 80s and 90s on TV. I don't know if that's true, but it is what witch house reminds me off. Crackling, using the popping sound found on records to make beats and manipulating VCR video seems to be what makes the most of the witch-house scene video logs. I'll leave you what got me listening to it, with all credit of introduction going to Ashtapes @ blogspot.com, who seem to be a good bunch of peeps.

Abara-Kadabra
Abara is another manga by Nihei, it's a simpler manga than either biomega or blame but it is still guided by the same stylistic sense that Nihei always brings to his drawings: the vast apocalyptic landscapes, his extremely dense and futuristic cities and a penchant for awesome character design. Abara concerns itself with genetically modified humans called guanas, which regenerate in any condition which leaves their spin intact. Add in an ancient cult which seeks to initiate some kind of doomsday scenario and some superhuman fighting and you get an entertaining hour of reading. This manga really relies on the artwork as the plot is flimsy at best -- still worth the time it takes to read it though.

DOPE SICK AWESOME HELLATIGHT stuff hot-off-the-presses, still freshly baked warm, still weeks before expiry, still new-car-smell, still show-home-fresh, still as rare-as-mr-clean-with-hair, etc.
Production is... instrumental Hip-Hop in a more essentially hip-hop fashion, so quite a bit different from what flylo and people like him have taken it. Piano heavy, more ambient Nü-jazz full of emotional-depth that'll leave you wishing you had taken up rock climbing with your psychiatrist when she offered to help you expand your athletic frontier.
The music is sample based and the rapping samples are pretty good, if sometimes lacking in flow.

Blame!
Nihei's first big work. essentially a cyberpunk hero's journey through a museum of growth -- a masoleum of ambition. He was just starting manga when Blame! was being created, and its prologues are his first works (Noise, blame prologue) so his artwork style does change quite a bit as the story progresses. However, if you don't like his architectural environments then most of the feeling and atmosphere of this manga will be lost on you.
The endless empty space, all filled with carefully constructed human-like architectural appearance, but without any of the limitations.
His ideas are always awesome, so enjoy.

part 2 will be up later today

More Hipster Folk
TheTallestManonEarth is a musician from sweden with a voice quite similar to Bob Dylan's. He plays country/blues guitar, finger picking on a banjo with some chords to fill out the rest of the sound. Folk-y. He toured with Bon Iver recently and its for a reason, he's good.
Specs:
320kbps [non-v]; Folk; 64.06mb
http://lix.in/-732b55
It needs a lossless, you can hear a hum in the background; the high notes/intense singing getz bitted. Still sounds great after 5 listens.

Biomega
Tsutomu Nihei returns with another apocalyptic future earth, this time with a planet jumping virus. His return continues in the same vein as his previous works, amazing architectural drawing style complete with vaste, dense metropoli. However, Biomega is much more focused on the first element of domination in a conflict that Blame! was -- speed. Where Blame! was so unique in its endless scope and overwhelming ideas, Biomega is much more clean cut, so much so that it almost plays out as a usual manga with very linear development... But trust 弐瓶 勉 -- it won't get boring.
The second half plays out into his usual themes: transhumanity and replacement, death, happiness and humanity's growth-based outlook.
-Had to divvy it in two because of mediafire's 200mb limit.

Got announced with yadda yadda yadda no one cares AC5 coming at the end of 2010 (possibly pushing into early 2011).
Focus is on power and from the video: bigger one/two hit kills and slower mechs, as said in the interview they are changing from a speed based concept to a 'power' based concept of the cores.
I'm excited, we're moving into AC3 territory but with the weapons to finally make damage balance irrelevant.
+Bioshock2: return as a hybrid (skinnier) big daddy; go up against 'big sisters'... same game, not as if that's a bad thing.
+Lost planet 2 w/ expanded online and up to 4 player online coop: i can't even imagine the scope of the environments this time around as bosses are supposed to be bigger

Gentlemen,
I do believe I have been charged. I find myself most conduced and unable to due to natural limitations, have found myself unable to discern if there are any markings of evidence on my back. I have a theory gentlemen, nay a fear -- what if the markings turn out to be white?
